About Jpop Avenue
Jpop Avenue started back in the late 1990's when AOL was still the king of the internet.
Jpop Avenue provided news and information about hot artists and helped Jpop fans find Jpop music.
After a few turns in life Zoazite (the creator of Jpop Avenue) closed the site and left only a barebones reminder of the former days.
In 2010 Zoazite decided to bring new life to the page and once again is helping to bring Jpop to the masses.
Girls that Dress Like Boys
For the next few months we'll be focusing on a particular genre of pop that has become popular lately in Asia. The All Female Boy BandMisster
Misster is an all girl boyband that kicked off in 2011 in Taiwan. Their music is mainly dance pop and some ballads. They are one of the most exciting developments in the female boyband world. You can download their first album HERE.
Fudanjuku
Fudanjuku is a Japanese all girl boyband with a twist. They also have alteregos as an all girl group. The all girl group has not made much of a splash, because the pop world is saturated with girl groups already. The boyband concept makes them stand out from the crowd and their latest single (below) released at the end of 2010 made it on to the Oricon charts and is a pretty catchy tune.
Aqua5
Aqua5 was formed in 2007 from members of the Takarazuka, Snow Troup. If you know anything about Takarazuka then you know that women dressing like men is their hallmark. So it was simply natural that they should come up with an all girl boyband. They released several singles, an album & DVD as well as a concert. They are older woman, I believe most are in their 30's at the time of this video, but they appeal to women of all ages. Mizu Natsuki
If she looks familiar, it's because she was the leader of Aqua5. She is out on her own now and is currently starring in Sumire Labo Theatre Show and Drama. She released this single just before retiring from Takarazuka and it can be found on her DVD collection.
Persona
Persona is made up of 3 members of the Japanese pop group AKB48. The same members from no3b (no sleeves). The characters are from the show Men-Doru where they play 3 girls who dress up as boys to become famous. They released 2 singles under the Persona name. Here is the main song "3 Seconds"
